Why Low Oil Prices Won’t Mean Low Airfares

In the travel industry there’s a lot of chatter about if the falling oil prices will mean cheaper flight tickets.

There’s quite a few suggestions and articles that hint that even though the oil prices have fallen it will be sometime for these to be reflected in the cost of the flight ticket…generally around 6 months as airlines have hedged positions that protect them from volatility in the fuel market.

I found this article on the Fly blog and there’s a great infographic showing the breakdown of a flight ticket…it may just surprise you what you are paying for and also the airline profit margin.

But the key thing to take away from this is to get the best flight deal, shop around and book early, take advantage of airmiles and wait for sales.
