Peaky Blinders is an extremely popular TV drama featured on BBC1, starring the rather delectable Cillian Murphy. The show has amassed an army of fans over it’s current 4 seasons – season 5 is hopefully due to hit UK screens within weeks. Covering the fictional lives of the Shelby family, headed up by Thomas Shelby (Murphy), the show covers the grit of gangster life in Birmingham after World War 1. Corruption, violence, smuggling, bribery, robbery, hijacking, fraud and much more, all make for a fantastic series… don’t even get me started on the outfits, with the ‘Peaky Blinder’ style adopted by a few celebrities.

Despite the show being set in the Midlands, filming actually takes place in various locations around the UK (generally in the North).
Let’s have a look at some of the places to visit in Manchester if you are a Peaky Blinders fan to get you in the mood for Peaky Blinders Series 5!

Manchester

Lot’s of filming has actually taken place in Manchester and it’s unsurprising given the amazing architecture dotted around the city! Some Peaky Blinders Series 2 scenes were staged at the beautiful Victoria Baths – an Edwardian swimming pool, based on Hathersage Road in Chorlton-On-Medlock, which first opened in 1906.

With a lot of the original decor restored in 2007, it was the perfect setting for the show!

Fans went wild recently when it was confirmed that scenes from Peaky Blinders would be filmed in Stockport. Admittedly, not the most glamorous of locations, everyone (film crew and fans) descended on the South Manchester town, to stand out in the rain for the spectacular event!

A dramatic protest scene from the upcoming series 5 was filmed outside the historic theatre and cinema, Stockport Plaza, but you will have to watch the show to find out what happens!

Several miles down the road, Arley Hall & Gardens in Cheshire is instantly recognisable as Thomas Shelby’s palatial home in previous season’s of the show. Totally transformed so that the interior was fitting of the 1920’s, Arley Hall proved to be the perfect location to show off Shelby’s wealth at the time.

Arley Hall& Gardens are open to the public from March through to October – details on how to visit and entry fees can be found here.

Manchester provides such a wonderful, diverse back drop for filming of Peaky Blinders and I shall be watching series 5 more closely to spot familiar locations.

A few other North West based location areas to visit where Peaky Blinders was filmed include:

Manchester City Centre – Mangle Street, Northern Quarter; Old Granada Studios; London Street Fire Station,
Bolton – Le Mans Crescent
Rochdale – Town Hall
Wigan – Lancashire Mining Museum; Eckersley Mill
Macclesfield – Christ Church
